The Woodwork Bench / Field notes & guides
About The Woodwork Bench
The Woodwork Bench is an independent, research-led website about woodworking plans, materials and project preparation. It is operated by an individual affiliate publisher based in the United Kingdom. The aim is to make published information easier to understand before readers choose a project or buy a plan collection.
How our guides are prepared
We start with a specific reader question, such as how to interpret a cut list or compare two types of joint. We consult published plan instructions, manufacturer documentation and established woodworking reference material where relevant. We then organise the information into checklists, explanations and illustrative calculations so readers can apply it to their own circumstances.
Our worked examples are desk-based illustrations, not accounts of projects we have personally built. Measurements and calculations are intended to show a method; readers must check their own stock dimensions, equipment instructions and the suitability of a design before making cuts.
How we assess plan collections
We look for information that a buyer can reasonably check: the clarity of sample drawings, material and cut lists, stated skill requirements, the seller’s published terms and the differences between free samples and a paid collection. We distinguish seller descriptions from independently verified facts.
We have not purchased, built or independently tested every project in Ted’s Woodworking. Our coverage should not be read as a hands-on product test, a guarantee of plan accuracy or an endorsement of any individual design.
Corrections and limitations
Woodworking tools can cause serious injury and some structures require specialist design. This site is not a substitute for manufacturer instructions, professional training, applicable building requirements or an appropriately qualified tradesperson. If a dimension, statement or link looks wrong, please tell us so we can investigate and correct it.
How the site is funded
Some pages contain affiliate links. If you follow one and make a qualifying purchase, the publisher may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate income helps fund the site. It does not mean we have personally tested the product, and we aim to explain relevant limitations alongside its advertised benefits. See our affiliate disclosure for more information.
